Soke Takayuki Kubota is one of the greatest martial artists of all time, is now the president of the International Karate Association, currently holding the rank of Soke, recognized by the government as the founder of Japanese style Gosoku-Ryu Karate, and Kubojitsu, but above all by emphasizing that he is the inventor and founder of the Kubotan Institute.

Born in Kumamoto, Japan, 20th september 1934, Takayuki Kubota began studying martial arts at the age of four under the direction of his father, Denjiro Kubota.

 
 

Because of his insatiable desire to learn every aspect of the arts, he trained daily and studied several different styles of martial arts. Despite his restrictive scholastic program and grueling training schedules, he managed to complement his martial arts training with additional studies in meditation, history and other non combative aspects of the arts. He distinguished himself by earning advanced instructor ratings in Judo, Aikido, Kendo, Iaido and meditation as well as calligraphy and several other arts. Grand Master Kubota began his teaching career at the age of 14 and it has flourished ever since. At age eighteen he opened his first dojo in Tokyo. He has taught police techniques for over 35 years from simple handcuffing to the world famous baton and Kubotan techniques. He has taught at 34 law enforcement agencies all over the world including the Tokyo and Los Angeles police departments, the FBI and the California Highway patrol.

An American citizen since 1974, Grand Master Kubota devotes much of his time to teaching karate at his school in Glendale, California. Although he is well known for having been an instructor to some of the most prominent members of our society, he is most sincerely interested in the development of karate at all levels and has placed a special emphasis on teaching young people. Respect and discipline are two of the primary concepts stressed in all children's classes resulting in proper growth and the continuation of the art.

Soke Kubota has trained the following Departments and Agencies around the world: Policía de Tokio, FBI, LAPD, USDEA, NYPD, USC PD, Monterey PD, Mexican Police, Sheriff's Dept., Salt Lake City PD, Montebello PD, Virginia State Police, New Mexico State Police, Boston PD, Navajo Indian Tribal Police, Indiana State Police, Georgia State Police, San Quentin Prison Police, US State Police, Pasadena PD, National Park Rangers, Glendale PD, US Marshals, Beaumont PD, Italian Police, Detroit PD, Cincinnati PD, Arcadia PD, California Highway Patrol, Alaska State Police, Hawaii State Police, Washington State Police, New Orleans PD, Toronto PD, Canadian Police, Puerto Rican Police, Venezuela Police, Ecuadorian Police, US Marine Corps, US Army, US Navy, US National Guard, Arizona State Police, San Diego PD, Beverly Hills PD, Culver City PD, Santa Monica PD. Además ha preparado a más de 50 instrcutores policiales a nivel mundial.


Grand Master Kubota has written several martial arts books highlighting: Action Kubotan, Official Kubotan Techniques, T-Hold Kubotan , Kubotan Self Defense Method, Kubotan Key Chain, The Authentic Kubotan etc… He also has produced several videos about his art and took part in over 300 movies like: "The Mechanic", "Killer Elite", "Blue Thunder", "Simon & Simon", "Black Rain", "Sol Naciente " and "The Hunted".

Between the arts Soke teaches we can find his famous Gosoku Ryu karate, Kobudo, his sword style Toshin, selfdefense and Kubota Jiu jitsu (Kubojitsu), law enforcement seminars, meditation and his unique technique as inventor of the Kubotan.

 

 

INTERNATIONAL KARATE ASSOCIATION
IKA

In 1953 Grand Master Kubota created the International Karate Association in Tokyo, Japan, and since its inception, the main objective of the IKA has been promoting traditional Japanese Karate, especially the style Gosoku Hard-Fast-Ryu Karate that was developed by Grand Master Himself.

In 1964, Grand Master Kubota relocates the global base of IKA in United States of America. In 1989, Grand Master Kubota obtained the title of Soke, that is, the creator of a new, unique and internationally recognized style of Karate. Under the command of Soke Kubota, the IKA has achieved a high recognition in the world of Karate and currently has over 14,000 members in over 40 nations around the world.

At present the style of Karate that Teaches Master Kubota, Gosoku school. has achieved a great reputation in the international arena, by the great success of their students in various international tournaments. Gosoku can be translated as fast and hard, making reference to spirit, Master Kubota wants to instill in their techniques.

The Kubotan is not left behind in this spirit, as the techniques of Soke Kubota seek maximum impact by using the minimum force applied to the maximum possible speed, making the useful Kubotan defense absolutely effective.
