Rod Kuratomi was born in 1962 and began his karate training at the age of 12. He has been training continuously since 1981 as a student of 10th Dan Grand Master Soke Takayuki Kubota of the International Karate Association. Rod has been an instructor for Master Kubota for over 25 years.
He has attained the rank of 5th degree black belt in Gosoku Ryu and the title of So-Shihan Dai which makes him Master Kubota's successor and responsible for continuing the teaching of Master Kubota's techniques and philosophy of the International Karate Association on a global scale.
He also hold several other black belt rankings in kobudo (weapons) and has been involved in weapons training as long as he has been training karate. He was one of Master Kubota's first students to attain the Black Belt ranking in weapons.

He was the International Grand Champion of both heavyweight kumite and weapons kata at the 2000 World Cup Tournament held on July 8-9th, 2000 in Los Angeles, California. He has won numerous titles over the past decades and continues to train and teach at the International Karate Association headquarters in Glendale, California.
He has travelled all over the world training, teaching karate seminars and officiating tournaments.
